6 Main Nutritional Needs
of an Adult Cat
Varying the meals of his cat allows him to ensure a good
nutritional balance. In any case, you will not see it yourself: a cat who is
always served the same menu gets tired. Please keep in mind that it can be the
opposite: some pets may be irrepressible because of the poor pet food quality.
The energy requirements of the adult cat:
To stay healthy, a cat needs a balanced diet and a certain
number of calories each day. Of course, it will not be the same between a cat
that roams all night and a fellow who spends his days in an armchair. Likewise,
a sterilized cat has fewer strength needs than every other.normally, the each
day strength intake varies from 60 to 70 kcal in line with kilo.
Protein needs:
Everyone is aware of this: the cat is a carnivore. His
nutritional protein requirements are therefore important, on the one hand for
his general physical condition, and on the other hand for the beauty of his
hair. Proteins make up between 30 and 40% of a food ration. You can check the
best feeding (and protein) solutions on pages like pet food reviews and
choose the best working option for you.
Amino acids
needs:
It is a specificity of the cat: it does not synthesize certain
amino acids, however essential for the good functioning of its organism. His
diet should, therefore, provide him with taurine, which will protect his heart,
eyes and reproductive system, as well as arginine, for the elimination of toxic
waste and methionine, to prevent urinary tract infections, etc.
Carbohydrate and fat needs:
Like any mammal, the cat needs carbohydrates, or slow sugars,
and lipids, which will provide it with energy and also palatability for its
food. The former must not represent more than 45% of the dry matter, the latter
not more than 11%.
In addition to fiber, which will facilitate its digestion, and
essential fatty acids (omega 3 and 6), the cat still needs in its food
carbohydrates or "sugars" which are found in rice starch, pasta, and
potatoes. Another reason to vary your pet's diet!
Vitamin
needs:
Cat food also contains vitamins, especially group A. A Deficiency
results in imaginative and prescient problems and lack of hair; conversely, an
extra causes lethargy of the animal. Other vitamins essential to the cat, those
of group B and vitamins D, E, K, and H. As for vitamin C, the cat synthesizes
it quite naturally!
Mineral salt
needs:
If the diet of the cat must integrate calcium, phosphorus,
potassium, copper, zinc or even magnesium, everything is, here again, a
question of dosage of mineral salts. For example, the calcium intake will be
100 to 200 mg/kg, zinc 50 ppm, manganese 5 ppm. Deficiencies, like excess, can
have serious consequences for the cat: muscle weakness, discoloration of the
hair, urinary stones.
Water, the
cat's first need:
The cat's first nutritional need is simply water, which it must be able to have at all times. This notably prevents him from concentrating his urine too much and thus risking the formation of bladder stones. If the cat does not drink enough, opt for water fountains, which renew and filter the water, which cats particularly appreciate!
